More about Mrs. Erdmann...

Teaching, I believe, is my calling from God. It is what I love to do on a day-to-day basis. So here is my story…

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, and attended a Catholic K-8 school. After elementary school, I went to Harold S. Vincent High School in Milwaukee. I realized during my junior year, I wanted to be a teacher. Looking back, I had many strong teacher role models, and I was the kid in class who loved to go to school. After high school graduation, I attended Cardinal Stritch University for Education. I also have a deep love of history, so I decided to pursue a minor in History. That is the kid in me that loves to learn and has the desire to try and figure out how the world works.

My first teaching job after graduation was on the northwest side of Milwaukee at Daniel Webster Middle School. The school had a loop system in which the students stayed with the same group of teachers for three years. This allowed me to teach all the different disciplines of science. I taught at Webster for a total of seven years. Teaching in an urban environment gave me many insights into what type of teacher I wanted and needed to be to be successful. It truly made me the teacher that I am.

After Webster, I decided to stay home with my three young boys, but I became a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center, which allowed me to stay in the teaching profession. After my youngest entered school, I resumed teaching as a sub in the Slinger School District. Then I was hired to teach 5-6 grade at Mercy Academy in Wauwatosa. In 2013, I was hired to be a middle school ELA and religion teacher at St. Kilian and in 2016, I joined the St. Gabriel family. St. Gabriel is a wonderful community of learners, and I feel proud to be here.

Each child I have taught has made me a better and more empathetic educator. The greatest lesson I have learned throughout my career is that children, no matter where they grow up, want to learn in a caring, motivated classroom. “Walking in the footsteps of Jesus” is my class motto. If the children focus on being an imitation of Christ, he or she will work to his/her potential academically, morally, and socially. I believe it is my job as a teacher to guide the children to become proactive and self-motivated learners.

When I am not teaching, I am playing volleyball with my husband, watching one of my three sons in a sporting event, or playing with my sassy French Bulldog, Erinn. I also teach eighth-grade Religious Education at my parish, Saint Lawrence.
